Hi, I'm John

I'm a technology leader who still loves to build. For more than 20 years I've led the teams and platforms behind cloud-centric systems, and in my spare time I'm usually shipping something of my own.

What I Do

I lead a global team of talented platform engineers across cloud, DevOps, and architecture, helping drive cloud and AI enablement across the organization. Our platforms host over 3,000 investor relations sites, including 63% of the Fortune 500, and deliver more than 16,000 webcasts a year.

What I care about most is building high-performing systems, teams, and processes: designing for reliability, keeping cloud spend honest, and growing engineers into leaders.

What I'm Building

Outside of work, I'm a techie at heart. I build and ship my own apps on AWS — from Terraform and Lambda on the back end to React on the front end — increasingly with AI-assisted tools like Claude Code. A few recent ones:

Away From the Keyboard

I'm a devoted husband to my wife Michelle and a proud girl dad to our daughter Mia. When I'm not with family and friends, you'll find me outside tending my lawn or at my CrossFit box chasing a new deadlift PR. Whether it's a first CrossFit class or a new framework, I believe in embracing change, staying focused on the goal, and enjoying the journey.

Why "SYNEPHO"?

SYNEPHO (pronounced SEE-neh-fo) is a phonetic spelling of σύννεφο, the Greek word for cloud — a nod to the technology I've built my career around.
